The disposable problem

The cheap fan isn't cheap. It's annual.

A twenty-dollar desk fan is priced to be replaced. The bearing starts to whine, the blade wobbles the housing out of true, the battery stops holding a charge, and by the time it matters it is July and you are buying another one. That cycle is the product. We designed against it.

    Built to Last

    Daily travel is the real test, not a shelf. The FrostFlow's ring head keeps the blades inside the housing where a knock in a bag cannot reach them, in a 240 g body sized to be carried rather than babied.

    Three ways to cool, not one. Five speeds of airflow for an ordinary warm day, a direct-contact cooling plate for the back of your neck, and a fine mist for the afternoons when moving hot air around has stopped being enough.

Design decisions

Why each part is the part it is

The short version of a long argument. Every row is a choice made for the summer after this one.

  • Enclosed ring head

    The blades sit inside the housing rather than behind an open grille, so the part that spins is not the part that meets the inside of your bag.

  • A cooling plate, not just a fan

    A fan can only move the air it is given. When that air is already hot, direct contact and evaporation do the work airflow cannot, which is the difference between a breeze and actually cooling down.

  • 3600 mAh cell, USB-C charging

    Charged from the cable you already own in about three hours. A cell with headroom at the speed you actually use is a cell that is not run to empty every day, and that is what makes it last more seasons.

  • USB-C charging

    The cable you already own. A proprietary port is how a perfectly working product becomes landfill the day its charger is lost.

  • Sealed mist nozzle

    Sealed rather than open, so the one component that meets water is the one component designed to meet it.

  • 240 g carry weight

    Light enough to actually travel. A fan that stays in the drawer did not replace anything. It was simply wasted.
